Six members of the media were allowed to attend the proceedings

Former prime minister Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be indicted on December 12.

The case, filed under the Official Secrets Act, accuses the former prime minister and former foreign minister of divulging the contents of a classified cipher sent by the Pakistani embassy in Washington.

The Cipher case trial proceeding resumed on Monday inside the Adiala jail.

Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain conducted the open court hearing. Family members and lawyers of the PTI leaders were in attendance along with special prosecutor Zulfikar Abbas Naqvi and Rizwan Abbasi.

During the hearing, Imran and Qureshi were provided with copies of the case record after their lawyer’s request.

The judge then adjourned the hearing till December 12 and said charges would be framed against the PTI leaders of the same day. The developments were confirmed by media persons who were allowed to attend the proceedings.

Six members of the media were allowed to attend the proceedings.

Last week, the hearing was held at Adiala Jail where Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the case about the diplomatic document that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) says was never returned by Imran Khan after it was sent to him. Khan is facing charges of leaking the contents of the classified document to the general public.

Besides the counsels of Imran Khan, Prosecutor Shah Khawar, Advocate Zulgarnain Abbas Naqvi, Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi, and FIA’s legal team also appeared before the court.

Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain had said in his remarks that there was a problem with his production order and that he would give the next date. Justice would not only be done but it would also be seen to be done, the judge said on Friday.

He added that in light of the Islamabad High Court’s order of November 28, the trial of the Cipher case will be held in Adiala Jail and the High Court had directed that the trial should be completed within 4 weeks.
