Petition seeks polls delay citing winter snowfall in February
The Election Commission of Pakistan has been petitioned to delay the February 8 general election in the country on account of winter snowfall that would affect several districts of the country.
The petition was filed by a man named Shakir Khan, a resident of Balochistan’s Kohlu district.
The petition says the election in Kohlu should be postponed because several districts and administrative divisions would be receiving heavy snowfall in February.
The petition also said that until recently FC ensured law and order situation in Kohlu but now the force has been redeployed to the border and Levies were unable to stop the movement of terrorists.
It is the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan to provide equal opportunities to voters, said the petition adding that given the possible weather conditions and law and order situation, the election in the district should be postponed.
This is the third petition to seek poll delay. Recently, Advocate Fatima Nazir filed a petition before the ECP urging the electoral body to postpone the February 8 general election, because the law and order situation in Balochistan, which she described as critical, was to lead to a low turnout of voters.
