The caretaker Punjab government has decided that educational institutions would be closed be closed on Saturday (tomorrow), as the province fights smog.

In a meeting, interim CM Mohsin Naqvi while presiding over a meeting said that markets, bazaars, business centres would remain closed on Saturday and Sunday.

It merits here to mention that the winter vacation would be observed in the province from December 18 to January 1, 2024.

The interim setup has been taking measures to counter smog. Last week, the government announced that the government would install at least 12 “air filter ionization units” or smog towers in Lahore to mitigate the effects of smog.

On Friday, Naqvi said that restaurants and business houses would remain open as usual. It has been decided that cleaning of roads and spray of water would continue.

He ordered an effective crackdown against smoke-emitting vehicles and factories burning tyres.

“We try our best to ensure that the air quality index remained low,” he said.
