FBR unfreezes PIA’s accounts after successful negotiations
The Federal Board of Revenue has agreed to unfreeze Pakistan International Airlines’ bank accounts after successful negotiations.
Reports said that FBR’s Large Tax Unit was in continuous contact with PIA to resolve the matter and orders to the effect have officially been issued.
PIA had reportedly not filed its returns since February and owes more than Rs4 billion in taxes.
A tribunal had ordered the airline to pay Rs2.7 billion. However, PIA failed to make the payment after which the accounts were frozen.
It was the second time in five months that the FBR froze the accounts of the PIA after the airline failed to pay its taxes.
The crisis with bank accounts comes shortly after hundreds of PIA flights were delayed after the airline failed to clear its dues with Pakistan State Oil.
