Crispy, sweet winter delicacy ‘Gajak’

Gajak makes the taste buds sweet and the addition of dry fruits adds more savour to it

In Pakistan, winter brings with it a delightful array of hearty foods that are cherished for their warmth and rich flavours. Street vendors offer sweets with their sugary warmth and these winter delicacies not only provide nourishment but also give soothing comfort.

Gajak is one of those gifts of cold weather. This tasty sweet not only prevents people from the impact of winter but also provides a source of income for many, Nadeem from Karachi making Gajak for many decades.

“In the 1970s when my father emigrated to Pakistan from India he started making and selling this and I am using the same ingredients and method as my father was used to,” said Nadeem.

Nadeem sells three types of Gajak made up of (sesame seeds, almonds, and all-purpose floor).

He also revealed the recipe of Gajak: “ Mix Jaggery and water and then add sugar, cool the substance after cooking it well together then add dry fruits.“

The dry sweet dish ‘Gajak’ can be made with jaggery, peanuts, or sesame seeds and offers an an incredible snack that you can consume in the winter.
