The police arrested on Monday a suspect who used Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi’s name in an attempt to pressurise policemen to release an underage female driver.

A first information report was filed at the Gulberg police station in Lahore invoking Section 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and Section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Police took action against the suspects after a video surfaced on social media where the suspect Yaseen was seen asking the police personnel on duty to let go an underage female driver who he claimed was a relative of CM Naqvi.

According to the FIR, filed on the complaint of a police inspector, the traffic police personnel on duty stopped a vehicle at a picket in front of the Smart Hotel in Gulberg Town and was issued a challan for driving on an expired licence.

“After the issuance of the challan, the driver along with another unidentified man got out of the car and misbehaved with the traffic police, hurled abuses, and threatened them. He also claimed that he was a government official,” the FIR read.

CM Naqvi took notice of the issue and directed the police to take action against the suspects, after which suspect Yaseen along with another man were arrested.
