The Supreme Judicial Council has issued a detailed show cause notice to Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi after hearing the complainants, sources said.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa chaired the meeting of the SJC where it heard around 10 complainants against Justice Naqvi while the SJC also reviewed the objections raised by Justice Naqvi, it added.

The SJC after reviewing all the complainants’ statements issued the detailed show cause notice to Justice Naqvi and sought a response from him in two weeks.

It is pertinent to mention that the SJC on October 27 issued a show cause notice to Justice Naqvi after the Pakistan Bar Council lodged a complaint against him citing misconduct.

During the meeting, held in the Supreme Court under the chair of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, pending complaints against the judges were considered. The council served a show cause notice to Justice Naqvi and sought a response from him on November 10.

However, Justice Naqvi raised objections over CJP Isa and two other judges’s participation in the hearing of the complaints against him.

In a “preliminary reply” to showcase on November 10, he called for CJP Isa, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood to recuse themselves from the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) that is inquiring complaints lodged against him over alleged misconduct and assets beyond means.

Later, He approached the Supreme Court to stop proceedings against him.

Justice Naqvi approached the SC early on October 20, asking for proceedings against him in the SJC to be brought to an end.

Details of Justice Naqvi’s petition in the court revealed that he will approach proceedings not just with serious preparation, but will come heavily armed.

The judge has assembled a six-member legal team made up of well-known names for the case.
