His 765 runs during the competition broke Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record of 673 runs set in the 2003 tournament, making him the most runs ever scored by an individual batter at the men’s cricket World Cup.

After hitting three hundreds during the tournament, first against South Africa in the league stage and then again against New Zealand in the semi-finals, Kohli finished with an average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.31.

Kohli became the most prolific century-maker in the history of the format in that third century, which brought his career total to 50 One Day International hundreds.
