Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar said on Sunday that his government had not arrested Imran Khan nor could it release him through an executive order.

Speaking in an interview on Geo News on Sunday, Kakar said that claims of Khan being slow poisoned in jail are ‘irresponsible’ and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman is completely safe in jail. He added that Khan’s saftety is the government’s responsibility.

Kakar also said that no one had any personal scores to settle with Khan and if a court gave the former PM a sentence, the government would make sure it is implemented within the ambit of the law.

On elections, Kakar said his government is committed to amking sure elections take place in a free and fair manner. He added that every election since 1970 had been the subject of controversies.

However, he added that it was hard for him to accept the idea of an all-parties conference over some parties’ reservations regarding elections.

Answering a question about Pakistan Peoples Party’s criticism over elections, he said that parties often try to portray themselves as victims infront of their supporters. He added that he did not take the allegations about level playing field not being provided too seriously.

Kakar said that it was ‘unacceptable’ that the Afghan Taliban were choosing to sit on their hands while the TTP continued to use Afghan territory to attack Pakistan.

He also claimed that religious leaders had supported the government’s policy on TTP during a meeting with Army Chief General Asim Munir.
