Body found in Karachi’s DHA Phase VII identified
The body of a woman found inside a water drum in an empty plot in Karachi’s Phase VII area on Friday has been identified as Hasina, police said on Saturday.
The 30-year-old woman was a resident of the city’s Mehmoodabad area, they said and added that the deceased had a friendship with a man named Hazratullah.
According to police, the incident was being investigated from every angle.
Media reported that the body was wrapped in a plastic bag and preliminary investigation alleged that she was murdered.
The incident comes a week after a newly married woman was found dead of bullet wounds in the same area. It could not be ascertain whether it was a suicide or murder.
Around 63,000 cases of gender-based violence were reported in Pakistan over the past three years, said a report by the National Commission of Human Rights released earlier this year.
According to the commission, 80 per cent of such cases were related to domestic violence, while some 47% of domestic rape where married women experienced sexual abuse.
The 57-page report was a policy brief to combat domestic violence against women.
