Electricity price could be increased by Rs1.7 per unit
Consumers are set to be brdened further with a possible increase of Rs1.7 per unit of electricity.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority will hold a hearing on the matter of fuel adjustment charges for the months of July to September this year.
If the new charges are enforced, consumers wil receive an additional burdeon of over Rs22 billion in their electricity bills.
The companies have asked for Rs12 billion to be collected in capacity charges, Rs 10 billion in use of system charges, Rs4 billion in operation and maintainance charges and Rs6 billion to cover losses.
NEPRA will have the final say on increases in electricity tariffs after the hearing. The charges will apply to K-Electric as well.
