Nawaz begins political activity, visits party secretariat
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif officially began political activities by visiting the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz secretariat in Model Town on Monday.
In his first visit to the office in four years, Nawaz visited a new room built for him at the party secretariat and also met the long-tenured employees of the party secretariat.
He was also accompanied by his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, who is also the party’s chief organiser. A party ticket holder, Imran Javed, also sacrificed a goat as ‘sadqa’.
Nawaz remarked that the PMLN wanted to rid Pakistan of inflation, unemployment and terrorism. He added that the party had worked for the country’s progress in the past and would continue to do so.
Earlier, he met party leaders Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif and Marriyum Aurangzeb. Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were also present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed election strategy and distribution of tickets. He also instructed to start campaigning for elections.
The PMLN chief is slowly getting active in politics since his return to Pakistan in October after nearly four years in exile.
He spent most of his exile in London where party members regularly flew to consult him on political matters.
Although it received much hype, the former PM has been relatively quiet since a public rally in Lahore on the day of his return.
However, reports have emerged that he could begin a series of public engagements soon and the party has begun the process of inviting applications for party tickets.
