An explosion near a police vehicle in Dera Ismail Khan’s district Tank killed five policemen and injured 20 other people on Friday.

The explosion took place in the Tank Adda area where a vehicle was carrying policemen to duty.

A heavy contingent of police arrived on the scene after the blast was reported. As per initial reports, firings were also exchanged after the explosion, and the explosives were fixed on a motorcycle.

Police said a total of 21 people were injured in the blast as well.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Later, an IED bomb also exploded and targeted a police and army convoy in DI Khan’s tehsil Takwara that killed one security official.
