Better to invite BJP here than releasing PTI chief, says former MNA Dehar

Former lawmaker Ahmed Hussain Dehar has compared his Imran Khan-led PTI with the ruling party of India, Bharatiya Janata Party, which many believe has used its Hindutva ideology to crush minorities, especially Muslims in the neighbouring country.

“It is better to call BJP here than releasing the PTI chief,” he said in an interview with Shaukat Piracha on his show Rubaroo which was aired on Aaj News on Saturday.

He was responding to Khan’s sister’s claims that the former prime minister’s incarceration and the rejection of bail was part of the “London agreement”. Aleem Khan alleged that courts were supporting that agreement.

In his response, Dehar replied that he welcomed if such an agreement was signed. He went on to add that a bail to the former prime minister would be akin to “damage” to the country.

Without naming anyone, the former PTI leader said that should the government release those who were involved in attacking military installations on May 9 when violent protests broke out after Khan’s first arrest in the graft case.

But he claimed that ‘London agreements’ were signed when some politicians failed to deliver.

Dehar added that it was his “mistake” to consider Khan as his leader. The former MNA shared that he had joined the PTI from the PPP at the insistence of his son who encouraged him to change loyalty after the Lahore rally.

He admitted that he was impressed by the PTI chief’s speeches, but lamented that the latter was more focused on his rivals rather than resolving the people’s issues.

Dehar accused Khan of working on the agenda of Indian and Israeli agents. But he did not present any substantial proof to support his claims on the show.

Moreover, he was of the view that the five-member Supreme Court’s bench decision to declare the military trials of civilians arrested in the wake of violent protests in the country on May 9 as “null and void” was against the Constitution.

According to Dehar, it was a “political” decision allegedly to favour a party. “This can support BJP but not the army.”

He was of the view that it would be turned down as it was not in the favour of the country after the appeal of the government against the decision.

When asked, he was astonished to hear that a PTI delegation led by Asad Qaiser met with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman earlier this week.

He claimed that they went on the orders of Khan to seek “NRO” from the JUI-F chief.
