Utility stores procure sugar stock of 20,000 tonnes
The Utility Stores Corporation has averted a major crisis after it successfully procured 20,000 tonnes of sugar, sources said.
The essential commodity will be available for the consumers in a few days, they added.
According to the details, the total cost incurred by the corporation for each kilogramme of procured sugar will be around Rs150 per kilogramme after adding all the expenses. The corporation got the lowest bid of Rs135.27 per kilogramme.
Sources said that the sugar crisis had worsened after utility stores ran out of the subsidised stock of the sweetener. It was then decided to open a tender for 40,000 tonnes of sugar, after which the corporation received a bid for the procurement of 20,000 tonnes of sugar.
