When a British prep school needed a head teacher to assist the headmaster, they found an unlikely candidate to be most suitable for the job.

Abigail Bailey, the new principal head teacher at Cottesmore School in West Sussex, is perhaps the most unusual teacher in the world – because she is a artificial intelligence robot.

“’Sometimes having someone or something there to help you is a very calming influence,” said Tom Rogerson, the school’s principal.

“Being a school leader, a headmaster, is a very lonely job. Of course we have head teacher’s groups… but just having somebody or something on tap that can help you in this lonely place is very reassuring,” he added.

Apart from assisting the headmaster in his duties, Bailey will help by ‘supporting fellow staff members to helping pupils with ADHD and writing school policies’.

The AI robot is basically a chat-bot which works by answering prompts given by a user.

Cottesmore is a heigh-end school for children between ages of four and 13 with upto £32,000 in fees per year.

However, he added that the new AI teachers will not replace traditional teachers, but only augment their work to help their potential fully.
