Worker remittances grow by 5.3% in September

The overseas workers’ remittances clocked in at $2.2 showing a growth of 5.3% compared with the previous month when the remittances were recorded at $2.09 billion.

On a year-on-year basis, the remittances declined by 8.3% in September, as workers’ remittances were recorded at $2.48 billion in the same month of last year, data by State Bank of Pakistan showed.

Country-wise inflows

The flow of remittances from Saudi Arabia showed an increase of 9.5% to hit $538.2 million in the month under review, as against $491.1 million in the previous month.

Inflows from the United Arab Emirates showed a significant growth of 29.63% as the overseas workers sent $399.8 million in September, compared with $308.4 million in the previous month.

Flows from the United Kingdom recorded a decline of 5.6% as the remittances were recorded at $311.1 million, from $329.8 million in August of the current year.

Pakistan expatriates in European countries sent $269.3 million in September, compared with $290.8 million in the previous month, showing a decline of 7.39%.

From the United States, overseas workers sent $263.4 million in the month under review, as against $262.7 million in August, a slight increase of 0.26%.
