Ishaq Dar, from the top echelons of PML-N, has hinted at the change in the party’s narrative for the general elections. PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had called for accountability of those who according to him ousted him from power in 2017.

“The economic recovery will be the best revenge,” he said in an interview with Asma Shirazi on her show Faisala Aap Ka which was aired on Aaj News on Tuesday.

After a flurry of PML-N meetings in London, there were reports that the party has managed to convince Nawaz Sharif to change his narrative for elections.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif in his last press conference said that Nawaz, who is scheduled to return home on October 21, would present his economic recovery plan upon his return to Pakistan.

Dar was responding to a query about the party’s narrative and their stance on the accountability of the former army chief, ex-spy master, and two former jurists.

“The narrative of Mian Sb [Nawaz] is very straightforward,” Dar said and spoke about the developments during the PML-N tenure.

He expressed hope that the former prime minister would put all his efforts into improving the economy. In this regard, Dar said a road map has been made.

“I think the best revenge will be on them who under a conspiracy that you revive that economy which because of their conspiracy and in 2018,” Dar said in an apparent reference to the PTI chairman who staged a 126-day sit-in in Islamabad. The PML-N claims that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit was delayed due to the protest.

When asked, he reiterated: “Revival of economy will be the best revenge.”

He called for bringing all the facts to light through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The former finance minister expressed his desire to appear in front of the proposed commission and clarified that the party has no intention to take revenge through such a platform.

He explained that the commission would review all the political developments from 2011 and alleged that the cricketer-turned-politician was launched in 2011.

The PML-N leader further added that the party would not take a “solo flight” and wanted all parties to work together for the country’s development.

Nawaz would arrive in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday where he would perform Umrah and leave for a Gulf country, Dar said.

He ruled out any possibility that Nawaz would be arrested. “Hopefully, I don’t foresee his arrest. Before Mian Sb arrives we, including his legal, will hopefully secure a protective bail for him and hopefully, there is no chance of his arrest. He will return to his country on October 21 and address a gathering at the Minar-e-Pakistan.”
