World Cup 2023: Glenn Phillips attends press conference in the dark
Member of New Zealand cricket team Glenn Phillips and media persons were left in the dark due to a power failure during a press conference ahead of the team’s game of the World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands in Hyderabad, India.
Phillips was speaking to reporters in a pre-match conference on Sunday when lights went off, prompting a member of the team management to open the mobile’s flashlight. The press conference continued in the flashlight as power went down for a brief period of time.
New Zealand will take on the Netherlands in their second match of the World Cup 2023 today (Monday). The Blackcaps entered the multilateral tournament as the runner-up of the 2019 edition when they lost to England by a thin margin.
Pitch invader sparks security concerns at World Cup
A pitch invader breached heavy security and fencing to break onto the field at the game between India and Australia on Sunday, getting to within touching distance of players including superstar Virat Kohli.
British YouTube prankster Daniel Jarvis stunned the crowd of around 30,000 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium when he appeared wearing a blue India team shirt with “Jarvo 69” written on the back.
Kohli appeared to speak with Jarvis before security escorted him away.
The International Cricket Council said they will consider “if additional security measures are required to prevent it happening again.”
“The individual concerned has been banned from attending any further games at the event and the matter is in the hand of the Indian authorities.”
Jarvis has become a serial pitch invader, making it onto the field three times during England’s home Test series against India in 2021.
