Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that people of Pakistan will hold those in power accountable through the vote.

Speaking to a delegation of overseas Pakistanis in London, Sharif said that the people will never forgive those who got in the way of the country’s progress.

Nawaz’s tone has softened on accountability in recent weeks from his earlier stance, where he had said he would hold people in the army and judiciary accountable for removing him.

He added that his first priority upon returning to Pakistan will be to stabilise and restore the economy. he added that country’s progress will start from where it left off in 2017.

He also told the overseas Pakistanis that they should contribute to running industry in Pakistan.

Nawaz has lived in London since leaving Pakistan in 2019 when a court allowed him to travel abroad for medical treatment. He is set to return to the country on October 21 ahead of next year’s general election.
