Peshawar police arrest woman accused of extorting govt officials

The police in Peshawar of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday arrested a woman accused of blackmailing high-ranking government officials.

SSP Operations Kashif Aftab Ahmed Abbasi said that the alleged blackmailer, identified as Uzma, 32, would pose as a doctor and build relationships with government officials after contacting them through mobile phone.

She has been accused of extorting money and other luxury items from the affected officials after trapping them, SSP Abbasi added.

According to him, Uzma who is a resident of Haripur in KP, had trapped a director of the Healthcare Commission last month and demanded two expensive mobile phones along with Rs1.8 million.

The police found out about the female blackmailer’s extortion ploys as it investigated the matter following a complaint filed by her against the director, SSP Abbasi stated.

He went on to add that more than 12 first information reports have been filed against the accused, while she was also believed to have taken money from more than two dozen government officials including assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners, and police officials.

SSP Abbasi said that the accused has been involved in such activities for a decade and FIRs have been filed against her in Rahim Yar Khan and Multan of Punjab along with other cities of the country.

Uzma’s husband has left her while the two are parents to a son, he added.
