KP police chief says Afghan nationals involved in extortion

Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akhtar Hayat Khan has revealed that Afghan nationals are involved in extortion activities in the province.

Speaking to Aaj News, Khan said that multiple types of groups are involved in extorition activities including those entirely composed of Pakistanis, those entirely made up of Afghans as well as groups that have members from both nationalities.

He added that a recently busted Mohmand-based groups was one of those which had members of both countries. He added that Afghan sims have also been used in extortion calls.

Regarding action against these groups, the IG said that the provincial government is set to create a taskforce that would take up the matter in accordance with the instructions of the federal government.

The government recently issued a November 1 deadline for illegal Afghan refugees to leave the country or face expulsion.
