LHC proposes ban on construction in smog season
The Lahore High Court proposed that no new construction and development projects should be started during smog season to improve the quality of air.
The court took up petitions demanding action to prevent smog on Friday, where the Punjab government’s lawyer was asked about major projects being carried out in Lahore.
The lawyer replied that five projects were currently in progress and the project in Shahdra was expected to be completed soon.
The judge remarked that there was no problem with projects that had already been initiated. However, he proposed work on the Babu Sabu interchange should begin in February. The judge added that it was a good proposal to refrain from beginning new projects in the smog season.
The court also asked tha lawyer to submit a report on the effects of the project on air quality.
The lawyer also told the court that work was being done on the alignment of roads including Jail road. The judge remarked that u-turns shoudl have ample spaces between them.
The court also said that there was a need to conserve water and water treatment plants should be created in 10-marla houses as well. The court asked for a proposal to be submitted at the next hearing.
