A special court adjourned hearing of the cipher case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi till October 9 on Wednesday. The hearing was held in Adiala Jail where both are incarcerated.

Sessions Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain heard the case which was shifted to the jail compound based on security reasons after clearance from the law ministry.

Imran Khan’s lawyers requested that the trial should be put on hold as a bail petition is currently being heard in Islamabad High Court. They told Judge Zulqurnain that a hearing has been reserved on jail trial and in-camera proceedings.

The case, filed under the Official Secrets Act, accuses the the former prime minister and former foreign minister of divulging the contents of a classified cipher sent by the Pakistani embassy in Washington.

Khan and Qureshi are expected to be provided copies of the challan by the Federal Investigation Agency declaring them guilty in the case in Wednesday’s hearing.

The court allowed 12 lawyers from PTI to enter the jail to attend the proceedings on Wednesday. Qureshi’s son, Zain, and daughter, Meherbano, were also allowed to see the proceedings.
