After IB, PEMRA also withdraws review petition in Faizabad sit-in case

Following a similar request by the Intelligence Bureau, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has filed an application to withdraw its review petition in the Faizabad sit-in case.

The application, filed through Advocate Muhammad Sharif Janjua, comes only a day before the case is taken up by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court. Headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the bench also includes Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aminuddin Khan.

The application says that the PEMRA’s chairman has ordered through a letter that the petition should be withdrawn and not prusued any further.

PEMRA’s petition is only one of atleast eight that were filed against a verdict on the Faizabad sit-in by now Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The Intelligence Bureau withdrew its petition on Tuesday as well.

Other petitioners include Tehreek-i-Insaf, Ministry of Defence, Election Commission of Pakistan, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the-then Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and politician Ejazul Haq.

The judgement had instructed the defence ministry and chiefs of the army, navy and air force to penalise personnel under their command who were found to have violated their oath.
