Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has said that the team will come up with a different plan in the ODI World Cup to take wickets in the middle overs.

“Taking wickets in the middle overs is of much significance. We agree we cannot apply things [to take wickets] in the middle overs. We also need to improve our fielding as there were lapses in our fielding,” he said while addressing a pre-departure press conference in Lahore.

Responding to a question, he said that playing conditions in India were similar to those of Pakistan and there was no extra pressure on the players for playing in India.

“As a team our morale is high and we have confidence. We will try to play our best cricket,” the Pakistan skipper added.

For him, the combination of teams depends on the conditions of the ground and pitch, saying that the playing XI is decided on the day of the match.

“We admit that we could not deliver in the last two matches of the Asia Cup. However, we are trying to rectify those mistakes and will try to get better in our cricket,” he added.

He said that a camp for the team was not set up before the World Cup as the management decided to give rest to the players as they had been playing for two and half months straight.

The Pakistan cricket team had only a week after the Asia Cup, so a break was taken, Azam stated.

Responding to a question regarding players’ contracts, he expressed hope that the discussion between the players and the PCB will bear fruits.

Azam said that the team has obtained visas and will leave for India today.

The Indian government approved visas for the Pakistan cricket team, to travel to the neighboring country to play the World Cup, sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told Aaj News.

They added that the Indian government has issued a no-objection certificate related to the security clearance for the national team.
