Court rejects bail pleas of 55 suspects in Jinnah House attack case
A special court of anti-terrorism court in Lahore has rejected bail applications of as many as 55 suspects, including fashion designer Khadija Shah, in a case of attack on Jinnah House (Lahore Corps Commanders House) during the May 9 protests.
Special court judge Arshad Javed announced the decision while hearing the bail petitions of 64 suspects.
The court approved the bail applications of nine suspects, including Sanam Javed, Rubina Jameel, Afshan Tariq, Ashman Shujjah, Shah Bano, Syed Faisal Akhtar, Qasim, Ali Hasan, and Hussain Qadri.
The court also ordered the nine suspects to submit worth Rs100,000 surety bonds.
All the suspects were arrested after the police started cracking down on violent protesters who attacked state buildings and military installations when former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested on May 9 in a graft case.
A case was registered against the above mentioned suspects at the Sarwar Road Police Station in Lahore for allegedly attacking Jinnah House.
Khadija Shah surrendered to the police on May 23 as she had gone into hiding to avoid arrest in the May 9 cases.
On May 9, Shah posted videos of her participation in the PTI protest outside the Jinnah House, also the residence of the Lahore core commander, on her social media accounts.
