JI to stage sit-in Peshawar today against fuel hike
The Jamaat-e-Islami to stage sit-in outside the Governor’s House in Peshawar against the massive fuel price hike, which they claim has further worsened the condition of people already suffering from back-breaking inflation.
“The PDM and ‘Tabdeeli’ [change] governments led the country towards inflation,” JI Ameer Sirajul Haq said at the Ulema Convention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Timergara on Sunday. “The judiciary and NAB should hold corrupt leaders accountable.”
He criticised JUI-F leader Fazlur Rehman for apparently being silent on inflation.
Meanwhile, JI leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman told supporters in Karachi that the government would have to decrease the rates of petrol. He blamed the incumbent government for inflation, which he claimed was increased “to make the International Monetary Fund happy”.
He was speaking to his supporters at a rally in the city’s Star Gate area.
Rehman urged his supporters to join him in protest on September 19 against fuel hikes.
“A petrol bomb has been dropped on us,” he said and demanded the government to take action. The JI leader alleged that only the poor people were bearing the brunt of government decisions.
In a post on X, he urged his supporters to “switch off their vehicles on the road and record against protest” against fuel hikes.
“This is the best and peaceful way to record the protest and send a loud warning to the government: Give immediate relief to the people!”
