Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on his final day in office on Saturday compared himself to a sinking sun.

The chief justice addressed a farewell gathering of Supreme Court staff hosted in his honour and called for unity.

He said he had spent nine years working comfortably with the Supreme Court staff as a judge.

“My condition is like a sinking sun now,[but] you have time at your hands” to accomplish something, he said.

CJP Bandial urged the Supreme Court staff to put their hearts to work. The country faces economic and other challenges but when everyone is united the crisis would be over, he said.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa will be succeeding Justice Bandial as the chief justice on Sunday.
