Kurram Agency death toll rises to 31, over 100 injured

The fighting is reportedly ongoing in Bagan and Lower Alizai

Clashes between villages in Kurram Agency continue, leaving a grim toll of 31 dead and over 100 injured. The violence, which began on Saturday evening, involves heavy and automatic weapons fire between the warring factions.

The conflict is centered around the areas of Bagan and Alizai in Lower Kurram. Tensions escalated after an attack on a passenger convoy on November 21st, which resulted in the deaths of 43 people, including 7 women and 3 children. This incident ignited the current fighting, with both sides engaging in intense exchanges of fire in several locations, including Kunj Alizai and Maqbool villages in Upper Kurram, and Balishkhel and Kharkali in Lower Kurram.

The fighting is reportedly ongoing in Bagan and Lower Alizai, located 60 kilometers from Parachinar city. Overnight raids resulted in damage to shops and homes.

Helicopter incident reported, then denied

A helicopter carrying a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government delegation, sent to Parachinar on the orders of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, reportedly came under fire from unidentified individuals. Authorities claim the helicopter and delegation were unharmed. However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Atif Alam refuted these reports, stating that no such incident occurred and the delegation is safe.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s planned one-day visit to Parachinar to offer condolences to the victims’ families was postponed due to inclement weather.

ANP Declares Day of Mourning

In response to the escalating violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the Kurram Agency tragedy, the Awami National Party (ANP) has announced a province-wide black day on November 25. The ANP is protesting the rising incidents of terrorism in the province. Police confirm that the death toll from the recent tribal clashes has reached 31, with more than 100 wounded. The situation remains volatile.
