The Sindh High Court issued notice to K-electric and the Nation Electric Power Regulatory Authority on Thursday after a hyper-inflated bill was sent to a consumer.

The matter reached the SHC when a resident of Nazimabad filed a petition against the electricity providers, stating that he received an inflated energy bill from KE worth Rs1.2 million on a fabricated accusation.

The petition stated that the energy suppliers were claiming that he was operating a hydrant on a residential unit meter, but that was not the case.

When the court inquired if he ran a hydrant, he replied that he lived in a residential area where he was not allowed to operate such a system.

The court asked the petitioner to present a picture of the house before the court.

Additionally, the petitioner informed the court that he approached KE on the matter, but they reduced the bill by Rs400,000 and told him to pay Rs800,000.

He added that KE had already disconnected his electricity meter over non-payment.

The court issued notices to regulatory authorities and KE, instructing them to submit responses before the next hearing, which will be held on September 20.
