The Counter Terrorism Department of Balochistan on Wednesday killed Ghulam Din alias Shoaib, a leader of banned Daesh in an intelligence-based operation in the Mastung area of the province.

An official of the CTD said that the operation was planned after the department had received information that Shoaib was set to arrive in Mastung to carry out some terrorist activity.

During the operation, he was asked to surrender but he started firing at the CTD in an attempt to flee the scene. However, the security forces engaged him in a fire exchange resulting in the killing of the terrorist, he added.

Shoaib was one of the leaders of the outlawed Daesh Balochistan chapter. He joined the organisation in 2015 after getting his training in Waziristan from the outlawed TTP platform.

He had been involved in multiple terrorist activities including suicide bomb attacks on JUI-F’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hayderi in Mastung, lawyers in Quetta in 2016 and multiple target killings of police and levies officials.

He was also involved in the suicide bomb attack on JI Chief Siraj ul Haq, the killing of Hazara coal labourers at Mach, multiple attacks on Sibi Mela and attacks on Quetta police.
