Sara Sharif death: Jhelum police arrest 10 members of Urfan Sharif’s family
The Jhelum police have detained 10 people including the brothers of Urfan Sharif and confiscated three vehicles in a case regarding the death of Sara Sharif, sources said.
The detained suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location. The soucres said that the police are planning to arrest the women of the family if Urfan Sharif and his wife Beenish Batool do not surrender in the next two or three days.
Sara Sharif, 10 was found dead at a property in Woking, Surrey of the United Kingdom in the early hours of August 10.
Jhelum Police Chief Nasir Mehmood Bajwa said that the police will arrest the suspects and hand them over to the Federal Investigation Agency which is cooperating with the British High Commission in Pakistan.
In August, a British court was told that Sara did not die a natural death, however, the cause of death was not determined.
Sara’s father Ufran Sharif and stepmother Beenash have been hiding in Pakistan after they fled the UK a day before her body was discovered. He disappeared with the rest of the family members, Beenash, Faisal Sharif and five children.
UK’s police claimed Sharif made a 999 call from Pakistan leading them to Sara’s body, shortly after landing in Islamabad.
On September 6, Sarah stepmother said that she and her husband are willing to cooperate with UK authorities in the investigation of the girl’s death and that they are being harassed by Pakistan’s police.
A video statement was sent to the BBC, in which Sarah’s father remained silent, but Beenish Batool claimed that the police were harassing the couple’s family, illegally detaining them, and raiding their house. The British publication stated that they were unable to verify the account.
