Govt admits sugar is selling for Rs200

The government has officially admitted that the price of sugar has crossed Rs200 for the first time in the country’s history.

Latest figures from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics have shown that the price of sugar increased by upto Rs25 in the last week.

The price of sugar has reached Rs200 in Quetta and Pesahwar after an increase of Rs10 and Rs25 respctively.

The price was recorded at Rs195 in Karachi with an increase of Rs15, and Rs 195 in Rawalpindi after rising by Rs20.

The price in Islamabad was recorded at Rs190, Rs 15 higher than the previous week.

On September 1, caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar directed authorities concerned to strictly curb the smuggling of sugar, petroleum products, urea, agricultural products and other items of daily use.

A day later, 20 trucks carrying sugar worth millions of rupees to Afghanistan wer busted.
