JI councilor gunned down in Karachi’s Surjani
A Jamaat-e-Islami union councillor was shot dead and another wounded during a brawl over Kunda (illegal electricity connections) in Sector 4C of Karachi’s Surjani Town.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Habib, 60 while Adnan Azhar, 43 was wounded in the firing, rescue officials said.
The body was moved to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Karachi.
Reportedly, the suspects kidnapped an electrician named Muzammil who came along councilor to cut the illegal connections.
A first information report has been registered on the complaint of Muhammad Hassan, a son of the slain, including sections 302 (Punishment of murder), 324 (Attempt to commit murder), 365 (Kidnapping or abducting for extorting property, valuable security, etc.) and 34 (Acts done by several persons In furtherance of common intention) of Pakistan penal code.
The complainant nominated Aftab, Faisal, Adil, Amjad and Kulharo in his FIR.
JI Karachi President Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman arrived at the hospital and said that Habib had gone for a meeting after he was informed of an illegal electricity connection.
He was gunned down as soon as he left the meeting, he said. Rehman alleged that the Kunda mafia had the backing of the PPP.
He demanded immediate notice by the caretaker chief minister and IG Police and to arrest the culprits and their handlers.
He said that the JI would protest if the authorities did not file a first information report of the killing or fabricate the medical examination of the body.
