Elon Musk blames Anti-Defamation League for X’s losses
Elon Musk has threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League for $22 billion for allegedly attempting to destroy X, formerly known as Twitter, by accusing him and the platform of being anti-Semitic.
The tech-billionaire said he planned to sue the ADL ‘to clear our platform’s name on the matter of anti-Semitism.’
“It looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!” Musk wrote on X.
“In our case, they would potentially be on the hook for destroying half the value of the company, so roughly $22 billion,” he added.
The Anti-Defamation League is an international Jewish non-governmental organisation based in the United States that specialises in civil rights law and combats anti-Semitism and extremism.
In May, the Guardian reported that the app’s value had fallen to one-third of what it was when Musk purchased it in October - from $45 billion to $15 billion in six months.
Musk raised his concerns on August, 4 when he said that ADL is responsible for the company’s quickly falling profits.
“Since the acquisition, The @ADL has been trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic,” he wrote in a post.
“Our US advertising revenue is still down 60 per cent, primarily due to pressure on advertisers by @ADL (that’s what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter,’ he added.
In another tweet, he shared that he believes the ADL is responsible for as much as 50% of Twitter’s fallen value - “roughly $22 billion,” according to Musk.
The Tesla founder alleged that ADL will not give a green light without the company agreeing to secretly suspend or shadow ban any account the organisation does not like.
“This “controversy” causes advertisers to “pause”, but that pause is permanent until ADL gives the green light, which they will not do without us agreeing to secretly suspend or shadowban any account they don’t like.
That is the relationship they’ve had with X/Twitter for many years. Presumably, they have that with all western search or social media orgs,“ he wrote.
