Karachi police have arrested a woman for allegedly throwing her newborn girl from the sixth floor of a residential building in Liaquatabad on Saturday.

An official of Karachi police said that the accused Sana has been arrested while a first information report has been lodged against her at Super Market police station.

He said that the police recorded statements of the other residents living in the building. They confirmed Sana as the mother of the newborn, saying that she gave birth to the girl two days earlier at the apartment she was living in, he added.

Amid changing statements of the suspect, police believed her to be a drug addict and mentally unstable, he added.

The police have obtained the DNA of the newborn and a medical examination of Sana will be performed on Monday while a psychiatrist evaluation of the suspect will also be done to ascertain the facts regarding the incident, the official stated.
