New details have emerged about the foreign tourist couple in Jamrud whose videos went viral on social media, showing that police harassment actually did not take place.

Videos on social media had claimed that police had misbehaved with a tourist couple in District Khyber’s tehsil Jamrud. One of the videos showed the woman reduced to tears.

However, it has now been revealed that the couple were turned back from Khyber after their documents failed to pass scuritny by the officials on duty.

However, the couple was seen again in Jamrud’s bazaar on August 27 where a large crowd gathered around them. As police appraoched, the woman started crying due to the ruckus all around.

However, police clarified that there was no misbehaviour involved on part of the police. Police officials said they were taken to Torkham border where border agents found that the male tourist’s permit had expired 17 days ago.

Reports said that the man is Russian while the woman is from Kazakhstan. They are now reportedly in islamabad.

The woman described the whole matter as ‘routine’ but expressed regret that social media had turned it into a storm and even her personal details had been posted online.
