Senior lawyer Khawaja Haris quits Imran Khan’s defence team
Senior lawyer Khawaja Haris has quit a legal team defending PTI Chief Imran Khan in courts. He was the most senior member on the team, but decided to leave it over disciplinary concerns, sources said on Thursday.
Barrister Gohar, another lawyer on the team, insisted Haris was still representing the former prime minister in Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court where he had not yet retracted his power of attorney.
Haris’s decision was widely reported by TV channels with sources saying that he distanced himself from other members of the legal team after some of them suggested they should raise objections on the Islamabad High Court bench headed by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq.
Reports said the lawyers told Haris that they would question the justice while Haris may remain silent.
Sources said Haris advised them against the move, but other legal team members were determined to raise objection on the bench and they went ahead with their plans.
Barrister Gohar said that Haris had not left the legal team, but usually sent his assistants to represent Khan in courts.
He said the power of attorney submitted by Haris to represent Khan in the Supreme Court and the High court had not been retracted.
