Politicans have to run the country in the end: Chan

Adds that the 'best lot' has been appointed to caretaker setup

Pakistan Peoples Party leader Nadeem Afzal Chan said that political parties would have to work together to lower the temperature as the country heads to elections, adding that in the end it is the politicians who have to run the ocuntry.

Speaking to Shaukat Piracha in Rubaroo, Chan said that he was sure that the ‘best lot’ had been brought forward as each member of the cabinet was a master in their field.

Chan said the cabinet always included people who would not contest elections, but maybe the time had come to move past their rule. He added that the cabinet did not have much power over elections on paper, but since the bureaucracy was politicised, the interim set up gained importance as well.

Ishaq Khakwani said that he had no particular reservations against any member of the cabinet. He said it was unfair to expect that people appointed for a few months would be able to do anything meaningful. He added that the cabinet was made of ‘neutral’ and ‘non-political’ people.

He added that Shamshad Akhtar was a very thorough professional in the limited interaction he had with her.

Senator Zahid Khan said that all of the country’s matters could be attributed, in the end, to ‘BAP’.

He said that a pakhtoon man had been appointed caretaker PM and the excuse was being made that he would alleviate the grievances of Baloch people.

Zahid Khan said the caretaker PM had been brought by ‘someone else’ without consulting politicians. He added that the whole thing was done the same way BAP was created overnight.

Chan said that only people who want to use crutches to come into power had reservations about elections. He said there was no abiguity in real political people over whether elections should be held in time.

He said that the caretaker setup as well as political parties would be responsible to change the atmosphere of ‘clash’ prevailing the country.

Chan added that whatever happened, in the end politicians would have to embrace the task of running the country.
