Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz has announced his retirement from international cricket. However, he will continue to play franchise cricket.

“After an incredible journey, I’ve decided to retire from international cricket. Big thank you to PCB, my family, coaches, mentors, teammates, fans, and everyone who supported me,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Riaz has taken 237 in the international matches for Pakistan and 1,104 wickets across all formats. He is the highest wicket-taker in Pakistan Super League history, and the first Pakistani to have more than 400 wickets in T20 format.

He was appointed as the caretaker sports minister of Punjab in the interim setup in January.

Governor Baligh Ur Rehman administered the oath of new Punjab cabinet members at the Governor House in Lahore.

The fast bowler rose to fame when he delivered one of his best performances as he bagged a five-wicket haul against India in the semi-final of the 2011 World Cup.

He got Indian great Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, and Zaheer Khan in his spell.

However, it was the game against Australia in the 2015 World Cup and his dual against Shane Watson dubbed as one of the best. Riaz picked up the wickets of David Warner and skipper Michael Clarke.

“Wahab Riaz went absolutely crazy, bouncing the living daylights out of me; he bowled super accurately, and he kept bouncing me, “ Watson said a few years after the battle.
