Heavy rains were expected in upper parts of Pakistan from today (Monday), the Pakistan Meteorological Department said in its forecast. The latest monsoon spell would last till August 16.

According to the update on Monday, heavy rains were expected in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.

This comes a day after the PMD reposted its weather forecast on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday. “Moderate monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating in upper parts of the country,” it said in a press release.

The Met Office has warned that there was a risk of inundation of low-lying areas due to heavy rain in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and surrounding areas during August 14 and 15.

Moreover, there was also a risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
