Mengal hits out at Nawaz Sharif over interim PM’s appointment
The chief of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Sardar Akhtar Mengal has raised concerns over the appointment of BAP Senator Anwaarul Haq Kakar as the caretaker prime minister.
In a letter to PML-N’s Nawaz Sharif, he regretted the fact that the politicians approach the establishment for every problem’s solution rather than resolving them through political struggle.
He cited a letter written to Sharif on July 22, hoping the issues would reduce by now but instead, they increased.
Mengal went on to add that the appointment of Kakar by the outgoing coalition government has widened the distance between PML-N and BNP-M.
He expressed his reservations over the PDM government’s decision to choose Kakar, without naming him, as the caretaker PM without consulting with allied parties in the PDM coalition.

Mengal showed disappointment in the PML-N’s actions saying that he had hoped for greater empathy after past experiences.
Kakar was named the caretaker prime minister after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader Raja Riaz reached a consensus on August 12.
“What’s surprising is that you people, after facing hardships, have not learned any lessons. We remember the atrocities from General Ayub to General Musharraf. But your party forgets the conspiracies and unconstitutional actions of Musharraf and Bajwa too quickly.
Once again, you are weakening democratic institutions by legislating in the dark without involving allies, thereby strengthening undemocratic powers,“ Mengal stated.
He believed that the legislation contrary to human rights will probably be used against PML-N more than them in the future. “We, the residents of Balochistan have not been considered as human beings since day one.”
He said taking decisions without taking the allies in confidence will only widen the mistrust between larger and small provinces.
Mengal concluded by making it clear that Kakar’s nomination as the interim prime minister not only put an end to his politics but Sharif’s decisions also created more distance between the two.
