At least two terrorists were killed after they attacked a military convoy in Balochistan’s Gwadar district on Sunday morning, the military’s media wing said.

Separately, Chinese embassy in Pakistan and the Chinese state media said a convoy of Chinese nationals was attacked in the region but there were “no causalities on Chinese side.”

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a statement, said terrorists who attacked the military convoy used small arms and hand grenades in the attack which occurred at 10:00am.

“Due to efficient and swift response, two terrorists were sent to hell with no harm to any military or civil persons,” it said.

“Security Forces of Pakistan remain determined to thwart efforts of the enemies of peace and prosperity in the country.”

Security sources in Islamabad told Aaj News that a terrorist was killed and three others were injured in an exchange of fire with security forces in an operation in the port city. The incident was later confirmed by the state media, Radio Pakistan, in a report.**

The security forces were conducting an operation in the city after acting on a tip-off when terrorists opened fire at them, the sources said adding that forces cordoned off the area.

Meanwhile, a report in Chinese media, CGTN, said that a convoy was hit by explosions and gunfire in the port city, but there were loss of life on Chinese side.

CGTN is a state-run foreign-language news channel based in Beijing, China.

Another Chinese media outletGlobal Times reported that four bulletproof vehicles – three SUVs and one van – carrying Chinese nationals were traveling in the region when there was an explosion and the van was shot at.

The shot left crack on the windows of van and there were no other damage, according to Global Times.

Neither the ISPR statement nor the sources referred to any attacks against Chinese nationals in Gwadar.

But the reports in Chinese media were confirmed by a statement from the Chinese embassy in Pakistan in the afternoon.

Chinese embassy demands investigation

Chinese Embassy in Pakistan on Sunday condemned the terrorists attack in Gwadar and urged the Pakistani authorities to conduct an investigation and punish the perpetrators.

“The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan strongly condemns this terrorist act. The Embassy and the Consulate General in Karachi launched emergency response immediately, requesting the Pakistani authorities to conduct a thorough investigation on the attack, severely punish the perpetrators, take practical and effective measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again,” the statement said.

The incident caused no casualties on the Chinese side, and the relevant personnel have been properly placed in safety, it added.

The Chinese Embassy advised Chinese citizens in Pakistan to be vigilant and take preventive measures against security risks, to ensure the safety of their lives and property. .

Balochistan Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti took to Twitter, now rebranded as X, to strongly condemned the terror attack in Gwadar.

“Thankfully, no loss of life happened, but there are reports that the ambush has been repulsed and the attackers have been killed,” he said.

Bugti, a former provincial interior minister, claimed that the ruptures within the militants’ fold were getting wider by the day as the armed forces were thwarting their nefarious designs.

The Chinese Consulate General in Karachi, Pakistan issued a safety warning on Sunday following the attack, according to Global Times.

The consulate urged people to maintain high vigilance and strictly control large-scale gathering activities due to the severe security situation.

In a separate development, a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations said that at least four terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. The operation was carried out in the Charmang valley.

A Sepoy identified as Muhammad Shoaib was martyred in the gun battle in Bajaur.

Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist activities after the banned outfit ended the ceasefire deal agreed upon with the-then government.

Security forces killed two terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the Mazaband Range area of Balochistan’s Kech district on August 12.

The operation was conducted on August 10-11, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations. The slain terrorists, it added, were involved in targeting innocent civilians and law enforcement agencies.

Last month, as many as 12 soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred in separate military operations in the Zhob and Sui areas of Balochistan.
