LHC suspends order that banned petrol for motorcyclists without helmets
The Lahore High Court has suspended the deputy commissioner order that barred fuel stations from providing petrol to bike riders not wearing helmets.
The high court has sought responses from the CCPO Lahore and the inspector general of police in Punjab. Justice Raheel Kamran presided over the hearing.
The deputy commissioner issued the orders in July after DIG Traffic Police issued a letter to make helmets mandatory for motorcyclists.
The court wondered how the district administration could suspend Article 18 of the Constitution which provides freedom of trade, business or profession to the people.
The LHC added that no law was in place that barred fuel stations from providing petrol to motorcyclists without helmets. The DC’s order was against the law, it added.
