Presidential and senate elections hinge on timely general election: PTI leader

Humayun Mohmand says there are bigger issues than caretaker PM

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Humayun Mohmand has said that the elections for the senate as well as the president of Pakistan are hinging on general elections being conducted on time.

Speaking in the program Aaj Exclusive Mohmand added that a constitutional amendment would be needed to hold elections on the basis of a new census and the same would be required for elections on the previous census as well.

He added that the constitutional amendment cannot take palce right now because it requires a two-thirds majority and not enough members are a part of the house.

Mohmand added that all this meant that the choice of caretaker prime minister is not the main issue facing the country, it is instead a possible consitutional crisis.

On Pervez Khattak’s recent criticism of his former party, Mohmand said that people of ‘high character’ voice their objections on time. He added that if the Khattak has issues with the way things were going in the government, he should have raised his voice in the cabinet.

Pakistan Peoples Party leader Nadir Gabol said that negotiations over who would be caretaker prime minister were still in progress and Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif have been in contact.

He added that there were less than 10 days to decide who the caretaker prime minister will be but expressed hope that things would get done in time.

Gabol said that the caretaker chief minister for Sindh would also be appointed through negotiations. He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Grand Democratic Alliance have proposed one name each for the post while the government has also suggested one name.
