A police complaint was registered against PTI Chairman Imran Khan for issuing “threats” to the members of the joint investigation team investigating the May 9 arsonist attack on the Lahore Corp Commander’s House also known as Jinnah House.

The police complaint was registered at the Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Station with the Qila Gujjar Singh Investigation Incharge Mohammad Sarwar becoming the complainant.

Khan was called for investigation in the Sarwar Road police station case and the PTI chief allegedly threatened JIT chief Imran Kishore and members, the complaint claimed.

“The PTI government is coming back. Make it clear whether you want to stay or not?” it quoted Khan as saying during the investigation.

The complaint said Khan held up his finger while issuing threats.

The complaint added that intimidating any officer during the investigation and warning them of retaliatory action was akin to blocking a “free and impartial” investigation. “This action of the accused is a violation of the legal code,” it added.

Police complaint, not the FIR

It merits here to mention that it is not a first information report. It is a police complaint also called a police report.

Experts say there is a difference between an FIR and a police complaint, with the FIR being a bit more formal and prompting immediate action.

When an FIR is lodged, a police officer immediately starts investigating the matter. Whereas, when a complaint is filed no investigation is done by the police officer until directed by the competent authority.

The FIR follows a prescribed format by law while a police complaint is an entry into the book register at the police station, called Roznamcha or police diary.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court rejected the applications of PTI Chairman Imran Khan to transfer six cases to another court. The court did not issue an immediate injunction in the Toshakhana case and fixed all the related cases for the next week.

IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq announced a reserved decision on the PTI chief’s petition to transfer the May 9 incidents, forgery and other cases against him to another court.
