Suspect wanted in Machhar Colony lynching arrested
A suspect wanted in the murder of two employees of a cellular company in Karachi’s Machhar Colony was arrested, police claimed on Monday.
In a statement, the Docks police claimed to have arrested the suspect, Asif alias Haseeb, with technical assistance. Haseeb had allegedly exposed telecom employees as robbers in the area.
A charged mob killed two employees of a cellular company in the Mauripur’s Machar Colony area of Karachi on October 28, 2022, after rumours spread that they were kidnappers.
They were identified as Aiman Javed, the engineer, and Ishaq, the driver. The two men had come to the area for maintenance work.
The complaint of the murder was registered at the Docks Police Station.
The accused along with his other accomplices tortured the telecom employees, police said.
They have so far claimed to have arrested more than 42. Many suspects were identified with the help of available videos of the lynching incident. Last month, police recovered a laptop, jacket, number plate of a burnt car and other belongings of the victims.
A court declared Haseeb an absconder over his continuous absence in the case. The accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday morning, police said.
