The Sindh Assembly unanimously approved on Friday the proposed legislation bill regarding the introduction of electronic bracelets to monitor habitual criminals.

The assembly passed a legislative bill for the supervision of habitual offenders in the province. In December last year, a bill related to the law was presented in the assembly.

Under the proposed bill, habitual criminals will now wear electronic bracelets. Theft, robbery, attempted murder, car, motorcycle theft, and drug addiction suspects would wear bracelets, according to a copy of the bill.

The assembly session was adjourned till 11am on Monday.

Such a step was also taken in 2016 when the Punjab Assembly approved the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Bill 2015.

It introduced for the first time an in-built implementation mechanism through the district Violence Against Women Centres, court orders, the introduction of GPS-tracked electronic bracelets-anklets to enforce protection orders and power to enter any place to rescue the women victims.

The stated aim was to ensure justice for women victims and to empower them, placing them on an equal footing with the male population.
