Alexander Road that will connect Islamabad with KP through Margalla Hills

The road is 7 km long and will cost Rs600 million

Capital Development Authority has decided to rebuild a road through the Margalla Hills that connects Islamabad with Haripur in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The seven-kilometer road, dubbed the Alexander road, was recently reported as a new project that would help connect the two cities through a shorter and ‘sceninc’ route.

However, CDA officials told Aaj News that the project merely involves fixing and improving a road that already exists.

CDA sources said that the project will cost Rs600 million and is expected to take three to four months to complete.

The Alexander road will originate at Shah Allh Ditta at the base of the mountains. CDA will be responsible for fixing the road till the city’s boundary with Haripur near the ancient Kainthla well . The rest of the project will be completed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

The CDA hopes the road will not only improve connectivity but also improve tourism opportunities. Authorities have also decide to build a spacious parking spot on the road to facilitate tourists.

CDA also downlplayed enviormental concerns regarding the project, saying that no major environmental destruction will take place since the road is being being revamped not built from scratch.
